What are we thinking about?
As we think so shall we become. Thinking manifests everything that happens to us. It links thoughts to feelings and feelings to action and experience. Through this, we sort out life.
The mind is an amazing tool. But how often do we take a moment to contemplate what we are actually thinking about? To become the observer, the watcher of the mind. This is where we can start to wake up, to see what is actually going on in our thinking mind compared to what is actually happening.
What if we thought about becoming enlightened? Is that so far out of reach?
At a meditation retreat I was hosting I asked that question to about 30 or so people. Raise your hand, those of you who want to wake up and be enlightened? The response surprised me, people looked around at each other to see what everyone else was going to do or say. As if to get approval to express themselves. Finally, one fellow put up his hand. Then another and another as if it was ok to now do so. Then the teacher I was teaching with, put up his hand and almost everyone followed. Still, there was some doubt from some— the thinkers. (-;
If enlightenment is the highest spiritual experience to realize, would that not be the heartfelt desire from everyone considering spirituality. A desire for attaining that lofty experience? Enlightenment! Maybe? Or maybe not, there are many reasons why we seek a meditation practice.
Consciousness is or can be a push and pull experience. My teacher has often said it is like walking on a razor’s edge. You can very easily fall off but at the same time, you can very easily get right back on. It gets easier with experience, that most wonderful of teachers.
In life, we can measure what we may lose with change, but we often have no idea what we will gain. Because change is an uncertainty often a complete unknown. Is that why change may be daunting? Because it comes with the risk of change? We don’t know what we don’t know until we do know.
If you haven’t? I do some one on one Zoom coaching to help you get started. No obligation just a little practice to get you started.
