Cause and effect or effect and cause?
Have you ever considered that what we believe is what we see and feel? Most of us have a belief system based on experiences from the past and perceptions from the physical senses. Because our physical senses relay information from the outside world to our brain, we may believe that our brain is controlled entirely by the feedback that we receive. This belief contributes to a sense of ourselves as separate entities who are largely isolated and feel alone in an uncaring and fragmented world. Which can leave us with an impression that the world we see causes us to feel upset, depressed, anxious, and fearful. Such a belief system presumes that the outside world is the cause and we are the effect.
What if this type of thinking is not our reality. Consider that if we believed that what we see is determined by the thoughts in our mind. Might we entertain an idea that our thoughts are the cause and what we see is the effect? It would then make no sense to blame the world at large or those in it for the miseries and pain we experience. It would then be possible for them to consider perception as a mirror and not a fact.
Consider once again that the mind may be like a movie, projecting our internal state of mind onto the world. When our mind is full of thoughts of misery, suffering and woe is me, what then will we perceive? Drama or peace of mind? But if our mind is full of peaceful, joyful, and happy thoughts what then? Will we wake up in the morning full of vim and vigor ready to seize the day with, possibly, love?
It is a good practice to question our need to control the external world. We can instead, consistently control our inner world by first becoming aware and then choosing what thoughts we want to have in our mind if any. Peace of mind begins with our own thoughts and extends outward. It is from our peace of mind (cause) that a peaceful perception of the world arises (effect).
We all have the power to direct our minds to replace feelings that do not serve with the feelings of inner peace. If you have any questions or desire some guidance feel free to contact us at the link below.
