The I Am or I am That.

This is a big spiritual topic, it sheds light on what is and what isn’t. It speaks to an experience that can hardly be expressed in written or spoken words. It is misunderstood and misinterpreted. It is the experience of life itself. To do it justice here will be at best an attempt.

The book I AM THAT, talks from Sri Nisargadatta Maharaja, is a spiritual modern-day classic and will be my reference for one of many blogs to follow.

In my humble interpretation of the ‘I Am.’ It would be expressed simply as an experience of ‘the silence.’ In the ‘I Am’ teachings it would be expressed as what you are not, so that you may come to realize what you are. That one is the experience of being.
To quote another spiritual teaching The Upanishad, “That in whom reside all beings and who resides in all beings, who is the giver of grace to all, the Supreme Soul of the universe, the limitless being – I am that.”

These are pretty heady and Woo Woo statements. But don’t be turned off by how grandly universal those statements are. But instead, consider what might be or what is.

It is the attempts by the mind to understand, that conflicts with the self to just be the experience. We are already that which we seek. It is just a matter of realizing that. Becoming attentive and aware to the silence, to The I am That, to awareness. It is we the seeker who is in search of our self.

To know what you are, you must first investigate and know what you are not.
