Is Common Sense Common?
What even is common sense? Is it being mindful? Is it awareness, cultivated by paying attention in a sustained way: on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgemental?
In a sense, common sense can be likened to the ability to observe our humanity ( the experience of our daily lives) from our higher clearer self, our aware self. While at the same time denying our past conditioning to cloud our ability to respond to life’s varied presentations.
Common sense is something that is ongoing and created. When we become truly intimate with the unfolding of our life, we are able to step back and watch it with curiosity, yet remain free from the attachment to outcomes.
Is this always easy, of course not. Unless you are an enlightened sage or Eckhart Tolle it takes a bit of practice to develop the common sense awareness to be present to what is actually going on in our head.
This is the benefit of a regular practice of meditation. To see the common sense of life from a place of aware presence without being bogged down by our conditioning.
It basically comes down to seeing the pure truth of what is.
Find your meditation practice and just do it for 20 minutes each day. Your common sense will become more common.
Zen proverb ” sitting in meditation for 20 minutes every day will benefit you greatly – unless you are too busy. Then you need to sit for an hour.”
