The Value of Meditation
” To penetrate the mysteries, to bless with good conscience, to be great and yet empty, to return to Stillness and be forgiving, to be compassionate and to deliver all people, to do good deeds and help people reach the other shore – these are the great benefits of our path of cultivation. To calm people in stormy times, to help them understand the nature of things, to maintain purity, to nourish all things, to respect life, and to answer the needs of those whose beliefs come from the heart.”
From The Jesus Sutras by Martin Palmer
This is the value of meditation, to begin to see the movements of the mind as separate from you. And once recognized to take that awareness deeper into the spiritual self within.
We spend so much of our lives doing and getting caught in all that surrounds us and commands our attention that we sometimes forget to look within and find the peace that quells the storm that surrounds us.
So often we go from book to book, workshop to workshop, and from person to person forgetting that the kingdom of heaven lies within. It is not something that we learn it is our natural way of being. We were born this way but have just forgotten.
It is often said that letting go is the way, and that could simply mean just taking a breath, a moment to become present, go within, and then to choose to be aware of the underlying calm within.
There is possibly no greater personal tool than the realization that becoming aware of the awareness which is witnessing or observing one’s life can change everything. This is quite simply what it’s all about, just this one simple thing will have such a profound effect on our existence.
Developing awareness does take some practice and a great way to start is to take 10 mins a day to count your breaths, When you lose track of counting let go of that and start again. Just bring your awareness back to the counting of each breath. The number does not matter. It is just the awareness of what is present.
